Arizona Waterways

If you think boating or fishing in the desert is a pipe dream, you are in for a real treat.

From the time of the earliest settlers in Arizona, the Anasazi, people have been channeling the natural rivers and streams to their own use.  The need for irrigation for farming and the production of electricity resulted in a series of dams around the state that created large, beautiful lakes just right for boating and fishing. Natural lakes abound and three rivers, the Colorado, the Verde and the Salt, provide additional opportunities to enjoy water sports.

The sites we chose vary from the most popular to the remote, offering everyone a chance to find the right spot to enjoy themselves. We provide all the information needed to choose a site for your next water adventure: available facilities; fees, if any; regulations; types of fish you might catch; directions and contact information. A map on each page shows approximately in what part of the state the site is located, and a map in the center of the book helps you find your way there.

The table of contents is listed both alphabetically and by region. Icons on each page help you identify which places have gas, RV hookups, grocery stores, restaurants and other amenities. Looking for a place that is accessible to the disabled? We’ve checked that out too, and you’ll find it here.

The handy pocket size allows you to tuck it into your glove compartment for quick reference.
